Steady fuel
Energy that carries you through to evening
Steady energy comes from three ordinary things done well: a real breakfast, water before chai, and a lunch that carries the afternoon. Here is how to put them in place.
EnergyThe goal
What this feels like when it works
A morning that starts sharp
You get up, eat within the hour, and the first half of the day belongs to you.
An afternoon that holds
Three o'clock arrives and you carry on with the same focus you had at eleven.
An even landing
Energy that steps down gently into the evening, leaving you calm rather than wired.
The guideline
How and when
Morning
Eat inside 90 minutes
Slow carbohydrate with protein — oats, egg, brown rice, chickpea. Eating early sets the floor for the whole day.
Midday
Make lunch the big meal
Grain, protein and something raw. A bowl you finish carries you comfortably to evening. Water first, then the chai.
Afternoon
Walk, then snack
Ten minutes of movement lifts the dip beautifully. Still want something? Dates with almonds do the job.
Karachi note: the heat asks more of you. From May to September, salt and water keep your energy up as much as food does.
The short version
Bring in, and simple swaps
+Bring in
- Brown rice, oats and whole wheat — carbohydrate that releases slowly
- Chickpea, lentil, egg or chicken at every main meal
- Dates with almonds or pistachio for the three o'clock gap
- Pumpkin and sunflower seeds for iron and magnesium
- Anaar, citrus or capsicum beside iron-rich food — vitamin C helps you absorb it
- Two glasses of water before your first chai of the day
⇄Simple swaps
- Sweetened chai → the same chai with half the sugar, or green tea
- A fizzy drink at three → water first, then dates and almonds
- A skipped breakfast → ten minutes and something simple
- A late, heavy dinner → the same meal, earlier and lighter
